Is the apex body of the construction contractors of Sri Lanka.
NCASL was originally formed as the Association of Construction
Contractors of Sri Lanka (ACCSL) in 1981, with the initiation
of the government of Sri Lanka and with the support of the
World Bank. Cabinet approval was granted for this formation in
1988 by considering Cabinet Paper on Development of domestic
Construction Contractors. In 1989, the Association was
incorporated under the Company Act. In 1994, name of the
Association was changed as National construction Contractors
Association of Sri Lanka (NCCASL). In 2002, the Association
was renamed as National Construction Association of Sri Lanka
(NCASL). Even though it was initiated in 1981 with membership
of forty contractors, the Association has steadily grown, and
now has over two thousand five hundred members under its
umbrella scattered throughout the island.
The NCASL is the only organization which exclusively caters
to the needs and interests of professional construction
works. NCASL is also the sole representative of government
organizations such as Construction Industry Development
Authority (CIDA), Construction Guaranty Fund (CGF) and the
National Advisory Council on Construction under the Ministry
of Urban Development, Construction and Housing. NCASL
maintains fruitful relationships with International
Contractors Associations & Federations such as International
Federation of Asian & Western Pacific Contractors'
Association - IFAWPCA, CICA...etc. with a high degree of
recognition.
Members of the Association is guided by the well drafted
Code of Ethics and this leads our members to shape up as a
Professional Construction Contractor.
The National Construction Association of Sri Lanka (NCASL)
is dedicated to foster and promote the interest and
advancement of the construction contractors & that of
construction industry, while representing and leading the
construction contractors in Sri Lanka. NCSAL is providing a
necessary technical support to its contractors in various
ways.
In order to develop, strengthen the membership and to obtain
clear understanding about the aspirations and the problems
faced by fellow member contractors' operating in different
parts of the country, the Association established branch
network in all the provinces of Sri Lanka. The Branches
which operate with a separate management structure of NCASL
and all Chairmen of the Branches were elevated as Board of
Directors with full voting rights. This decision has
empowered the entire membership of all the Branches to
report their concerns to the Association through their
legitimate representative and seek solutions for them.
Annual General Meetings and the Awards Ceremonies of the
Branches were very well planned and colourfully implemented
with the participation of most of the Senior Officers in the
Provinces and sometimes with Political Authorities as well.
Maintenance of the high standards, procedures coupled with
methodically planned sessions gained confidence and
acceptance of the National Construction Association of Sri
Lanka among the Politicians and the Senior Officials in the
provinces.
The Advanced Construction Training Academy (ACTA) is an
affiliated institution and the training arm of the National
Construction Association of Sri Lanka. The ACTA Institute
identifies the training requirements in the construction
field and develops and conducts the training programs for
industry personal and the school leavers.
The University College of Construction Technology (UCCT) is
another institute established by a Memorandum of
Understanding signed between Ministry of Youth Affairs &
Skills Development of Sri Lanka (MYASD) and Advanced
Construction Training Academy (ACTA). The UCCT provides
Education and Training for the personnel who serve the
Construction Industry and also those who wish to pursue a
career in the Middle Level and upwards in this sector. The
trainees could obtain the NVQ certificates up to level 7
from the UCCT.
The Association conducts "Construct Exhibition" annually to
expose the stake holders of the construction industry to the
new products, equipment, services etc. to improve the
quality and timely completion of projects by contractors and
it has become the No. 01 exhibition in the field of
construction in Sri Lanka. Leading goods and service
providers in the field are enthusiastic to take part in this
event by sponsoring due to the exposure and long-term
benefits.
